In my opinion, Lupe is finally back.

Well, with his newest single, I feel the same way. Around My Way is clever, and makes a clear point. The track is sampled from Pete Rock’s T.R.O.Y., and the second I heard it, I hit download on iTunes. However, even though I dug the sample, Pete Rock, himself, didn’t. Pete Rock delivered his opinion via Twitter, stating that when TROY was released, He and CL Smooth were still reeling over the unexpected loss of their close friend TROY “Trouble T” Dixon, and the song was to pay tribute to his memory. 

Releasing the first off of The Great American Rap Album/Food & Liquor 2, Lupe Fiasco wins us over once again. To be honest, I was not happy with LASERS. It was garbage, and we all knew it wasn’t just because of Lupe. The album was the product of a controlling record label and conflict with the artist. However, when Lupe dropped Friend of the People, a his latest mix tape, he won me back over. I felt like I was hearing Lupe Fiasco again, not his record label. 


Pete Rock tweeted, “No disrespect to lupe fiasco and i like him alot but TROY should be left alone. Feel so violated,the beat is next to my heart and was made Outta anguish and pain. When it’s like that it should not be touched by no one” after he heard Around My Way.

Lupe then began to bring up a good point, saying that T.R.O.Y. is a sample in itself, and Pete Rock has remixed with numerous other artists. Lupe was not only paying dues to Pete Rock and CL Smooth, but Lupe’s song is also paying tribute to loss a friend. 

To be honest, I’m siding with Lupe. I love the song, I love the new Lupe, and I think Pete Rock need to support the young artist as he tries to steer away from auto-tuned radio ish, and bring back an old classic.
